To be honest, I DO beleive Ninten is Ness' dad even still. Suspiciously, in the Mother 1+2 release, they changed Mother 1 from being in 1988 to "the 1980s" and Earthbound could theoretically by any time in the 90s. The Mother book (though not particularly canon) even goes so far as to suggest it's possible Ana might be pregnant at the end (through magic or something, probably) To take it further, Mother 1 the game seems to suggest that all psychics on Earth are caused by George, meaning it's most likely a heriditary trait. That sort of makes me beleive that all the psychics (except the Magicant-like Magypsies) in all three games are descendants of Maria and George. Also it's not that hard to beleive that they wanted a more fantastical name like "Eagleland" when they were going to make other countries too, thus retconning the name America without bothering the change it in Mother 1.

The only thing that's the same really is the structure of the game.

Tbh yeah my headcanon is that Earthbound takes place in an alternate universe from Beginnings. That and Loid is kid version of Dr. Andonuts.

I think the alternate universe versions theory is a pretty cool theory, but I like to think they don't know each other and Giygas made a mistake Giygas messed up his body time travelling (similar to Pokey) and then he arrived to earth 4 years after being defeated by Ninten and friends Then he saw some place similar to America (which he thought was America) called Eagleland and then he saw some town called Onett (which he thought was Podunk) Then he saw a boy in Onett (Ness) who he thought was Ninten (who defeated him before) so he decided to send enemies to him and ambush him just because he thought that boy was Ninten and wanted to take revenge on him

ness is more powerful, he absorbed the power of the universe via magicant and if you really wanna push it he absorbed multiple universe levels of powers considering porkys time travel shenanigans imply there are other universes, you could say that that giygas also posed a threat to these universes too but thats a far bigger stretch, i love lucas but he just doesnt have anything even close to getting near any space level stuff compared to ness, all though i guess if you want to you can say lucas scales to porky who can scale to ness lol EDIT: i actually looked it up and apparently itoi has at least stated before that the dark dragon would destroy EVERY universe as well, and since hes the power of the earth in both games and ness gains that power yeah its easier to say hes multiversal level

I'm gonna play brothership! I don't think an EarthBound remake would be done justice without Itoi's plentiful involvement.

Ninten & Ness most definitely aren't related in the whole father and son dynamic many fans like to theorize, the time gap between MOTHER 1's & 2's events are too short for it to add up. (hell I doubt they are even blood-related at all), but if Ninten & Ness *HAD* to be related for some odd reason, I'd like to imagine they would be distant step-cousins. Given that in Magicant a monkey tells Ninten that he has an odd resemblance to Queen Mary aka Maria that means Ninten would have to be biologically related to Maria to appear similar to her. The reason why I bring up biological relations is because I'd imagine after Maria's disappearance, George decided to marry another women and have a child with her. George would have 2 children in total from 2 different ladies, one of them being Ninten's grandparent from Maria's side and the other being Ness' grandparent from the other mystery women George decided to marry later-on side.

I've always had a sort of headcanon of how all the protags are related (hc because it has zero proof to be a theory lol). And it's that Ninten is Ness's grandfather, and Ness is Alec's grandfather, making him also Hinawa's great-grandfather and Lucas & Claus' great-great-grandfather.

When i first played this game as a kid i named him poo without selecting don’t care, and was shocked to learn he actually was called that.

To me, Earthbound is a soft reboot of Earthbound Beginnings. So in a way, Ness is an alternate version of Ninten. Why the franchise needed a soft reboot after *one* game is anyone's guess

I never really thought about the first two games taking place in different dimensions. I always just assumed that Mother 1 taking place in America and Mother 2 taking place in Eagleland (A fictitious satirized America) was more of an oversight than anything. Plus Giygas appearing in both games implies that they are at least somewhat connected. Whether or not that implies Ninten and Ness are related is less concrete. Personally I don’t think they are since they aren’t the only characters that bear resemblance to someone else, as Ana and Paula, as well as Lloyd and Jeff, also bear a resemblance to one another.

I've always head canon'd that the story of Ninten's grand adventure to save the world from aliens was told on national television on the news one day and that a younger and easy to awe Ness saw the news coverage and was inspired by Ninten's bravery and strength, so much so that he decided to dress just like him. After all Ness already had a similar hat to Ninten, so why not go ahead and go all out with the rest of the clothing.

Ninten n Ana being Ness' parents is just too perfect to not become canon eventually. Just by changing some names of places n the years of the games it just fits awesomely

I like to think that America and Eagleland are the same country, but with different nicknames, like how some people refer to the United States as just "America." And since Eagleland/America is based off of the US, it would be huge, and explains why we don't see the Mother 1 towns in EarthBound. Also, I like to think that after the events of Mother 1, Ninten got really popular, and even on the news and such. I like to think that Ness was in awe/inspired by Ninten's character, and picked up his courage (and even wearing the same outfit). Eventually, Ness got to go on his own adventure. Basically, think Ness is a fan of Ninten.

I hc'd that Giygas tried to make Ness his perfect vessel since he no longer had a body, and modeled after the human who defeated him and his only family still left, Ninten, warping Ness' body during it's devolpment so that he would be near identical to him.

I also like to believe that they are from different dimensions, but another theory I thought of is what if pokey going back in time messing with time and space makes a split timeline where mother 1 happen (and Undertale and deltarune MAYBE, PROBABLY NOT). But that's my personal take.
